  442.925 Repeater - Crown, Minnesota

Cousin of Crown Tower

Covering the Northland

After my retirement from Chrysler in 1996 I started my heavy duty mowing business, I don’t mow grass, I specialize in mowing weeds and fields. Most of my work now consists of mowing highway right-of-way, also known as ditch mowing.

It was while mowing the roads for Stanford township that I noticed an empty tower located on the top of a hill. After inquiring with the township and going to the county seat I found the owner and gave the information to Greg, NØGEF a good friend and owner of Range Paging.

He saw the wisdom of the tower and location and soon purchased the site, it was used by a cable tv company as the head end/distribution location for cable tv in the Zimmerman, Cambridge, Isanti area.

The tower has a base of 22 feet and at the top of the 140 foot tower it is still a massive 8 feet across. Greg provided a Celwave 455 uhf antenna and also a Celwave vhf antenna for his 145.230 repeater that is also located there.

The repeater used at Crown is a Motorola MSF5000. The model number is c74clb, it is a prom programmable 110 watt repeater that was donated by AT&T when they shutdown their microwave system. Greg’s vhf repeater is a c73cxb it is a 100 watt computer programmable repeater. The Crown location is 37 miles from downtown Minneapolis, a good gap filler to work with the next planned step of the 442.925 system
